Cocoon
An installation touching on listening and silence - listening to a conversation between materials often held as opposites, encountering the silence of open space. The work takes its final form as an installation, yet its essential structure is a series of collaborations. Together, we wrap rusted barbs with silk fibers, contemplations on the silkworm’s self-entwining, at once protective, aggressive and self-suffocating.
Performed at The Contemporary Museum at First Hawaiian Center, Honolulu, HI with crystal singing bowls played by Bryan Jorden. Final installation at Anna Leonowens Gallery, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, 2010. Photo credit: Steve Farmer
